Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) has announced to our engineering students the launch of a Student of the Year Award. Every year, the most deserving student at our UTC that wishes to pursue an Apprenticeship with HPP will be awarded a coveted place at their apprenticeship assessment centre, a cash prize and a week of work experience.
HPP produces its Formula 1 powertrains in Brixworth, Northamptonshire – just 30 miles from Daventry UTC, which has been selected as a place to scope for new talent.
Each year, HPP receives hundreds of apprenticeship applications, with a select few candidates being invited to an assessment centre. The most deserving engineering student from our UTC will automatically be granted a place at the assessment centre, increasing his or her chance of securing an apprenticeship.
Our Principal said: ‘We are very pleased and privileged that HPP have provided this outstanding award and opportunity for our students. Their power units are clearly the best in Formula 1, powering the Silver Arrows to consecutive Formula 1 World Constructors’ and Drivers’ World Championships.
The award is designed to recognize the most deserving engineering student that wishes to pursue a career with HPP, but I know that many more of our students will be applying for the apprenticeship scheme. They are studying extremely hard, as they want the opportunity to be involved with a winning team. This is a priceless opportunity for local students to work for a world leading company, straight after finishing their studies at the UTC.“
