Art & Design Technology
The Art & Design Technology course introduces students to a wide variety of art & design materials, processes and outcomes ranging from drawing and painting to sculpture, design model making or even photography. In years 12 and 13 we are running the BTEC National Extended Diploma which is built upon the knowledge and experience the students already have giving them the opportunity to be creative at a greater depth focusing more in an area of a chosen specialism.
With the BTEC National there are 13 units to be completed over the 2 years. These give the students the opportunity to experiment creatively and develop their skills and knowledge as well as focus more specifically on their selected specialist pathway. Out of the 13 units 4 are assessed externally and the remaining 9 are assessed by the UTC.
Art & Design Technology students can decide to further their education or initiate a career in a myriad of different fields in the art and design industry. From being a fine art sculptor, a graphic designer or computer games designer, to being an architect, automotive designer or even a professional photographer
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design, equivalent in size to three A-levels.
With the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Art & Design Technology Course there are 13 Units to be completed over the two years. 7 units form the 13 are mandatory, 4 of which are set externally. The other 6 are selected from a list of 38 areas of specialism.
The units at this level are far less restricted and open to interpretation giving a very broad spectrum of outcomes available to students. As well as this, the areas of specialism covered are broad also. These cover many areas in the design industry such as:
- Graphic Design
- 3D Design
- Product Design
- 3D Modelmaking (which could lead to careers in any of the above as well as)
- Visual Effects
- Games Design
- and many more!
A very exciting course with excellent prospects to higher education and/or employment. Giving the students here at Daventry UTC a greater input into the design of their own future!
